Is Blue Monday A Done Teal?

blueblog

So, here we go again! We’ve wished our loved ones a Happy New Year as we braced ourselves for what 2022 has in store. And now it’s the third Monday of January - often referred to as Blue Monday, said to be the most depressing day of the year. But is that true?

Sure, some of us will feel down now that the excitement of Christmas is but a memory and the warmer months remain some way off. Let’s face it, life’s not much of a breeze for most of us due to the pandemic and those pesky day-to-day obstacles that fall in our path and trip us up haven’t gone anywhere.

Blue Monday appears to have been made up by the marketing whizzes at holiday companies to entice us to ‘book now’.

Let’s not lose sight that we all have good days and bad days. There can’t be one most depressing day as it’s different for every one of us. We each find ourselves experiencing difficult circumstances and at different times which affect us uniquely. Sometimes these episodes are temporary, when we feel down. We can surely all relate to that – days when every task seems like a chore. Yet other vulnerabilities can last ever-so much longer.

We must recognise the significance of looking after our own mental health every day of the year. With busy lives, this crucial fact can fall down on our to-do lists. And we must support each other now, more than ever, mindful that many of the things we might have relied on to protect our mental wellbeing may not be possible now, due to the pandemic.

If you have concerns about your own mental health there are many organisations that can support you. Our fabulous NHS of course, and charities such as the Mental Health Foundation, Mind, Rethink Mental Illness and The Samaritans – who’ve renamed Blue Monday “Brew Monday” to encourage us to have a cuppa and talk to friends, family and colleagues.

If your organisation would like to learn more about the training we provide to help you recognise and support your teams and customers please visit www.reynoldsbusbylee.com Today is as good a day as any!

If you’re making… Team ReynoldsBusbyLee takes our tea with a splash of milk (skimmed, if you have it).

Happy New Year!
